Benefits of the Flow State
Discoveries by behavioral psychologists in a 2002 study of athletes, chess players, and artists defined the flow state as immersive absorption - a ‘current’ ushering participants into action. I believe their findings on immersive physical exertion offer well-being across other areas of life.
Similar studies found cardio and weightlifting increase blood flow to the amygdala + hippocampus in our brains, which control motivation + mood. With daily physical training, we enjoy the benefits of the flow state in our daily lives: improved mental faculties, energy, and relief from depression, anxiety, and entropy.
